Virgo Season: Why I love it & what I learned from it

birthday2019

Over a month ago today, I got my first tattoo and chopped my hair as short as I could.

Since then I've revamped my blog, saw IT 2 twice (been looking forward to this!), launched our own line of accessories with my team, saw Ben&Ben for the fourth time at the LSS premiere night (still awesome), pub-crawled at Pob with some new friends, got funeral plans for me and my family, booked an Airbnb with the boyf, started with MEEB (more on this soon), and volunteered on cleaning the beach.

I don't know about you but this has been the most productive and eventful time of the year, nothing screams Virgo season louder than this 😂 It feels as if this magical force has been pushing me to create and try new things... or it could just be the deep-seated paranoia of getting older and running out of time? Whatever it may be, the moving and organizing personally helped me feel fulfilled despite turning another year older.

28th: Took a day off from work, woke up at 3AM the following day to get to LPPCHEA (Las Piñas-Parañaque Critical Habitat and Ecotourism Area), got delayed by the crazy weather, picked up trash from station 14, showered at home, had lunch at Manam Café with my dad and sister, and capped the day off by attending the anticipated mass.

For years, I have prepared "special" things to do on my birthday but it usually revolved around - as narcissistic as this may sound - me. Partying with friends, self-pampering, shopping. Somehow it still hasn't felt as satisfying as this year's celebration.  The beach clean-up was definitely the highlight. I only spent about 2 hours cleaning up in the area and it was an eye-opening experience. I know we see it in the news and read it online, but to see it firsthand is something else.

First step: Awareness

80% of the trash we've gathered were plastic wrappers. Some 10% were plastic straws and the rest were either rubber, fabric, and toxic wastes (diapers, etc.) It's frustrating and it can't be resolved overnight by a few people once a year. It needs to be a way of life that involves compassion from everyone. It's a team effort and the first step is awareness: Letting people know so that they could care (as quoted from a documentary I just saw recently.)

Before this turns into an environmental post - no, I am in no shape to be the next Greta Thunberg. But I will definitely try my best to reduce producing waste in our household and spread awareness as much as I can.

Learning acceptance

So I came across the concept of wabi-sabi while reading articles about Virgo season and guess what? I might've just found my next tattoo! ✨ As a perfectionist, it's always been a struggle finishing artworks and appreciating things. I spend more time overthinking and finding fault in everything sometimes instead of just creating/producing anything, and I've always wanted to cure that. Learning the wabi-sabi philosophy - accepting imperfections and finding beauty in it - feels like the answer I've been looking for this whole time. I love how simple the idea is but so difficult to apply! Can't wait to live by this and reflect it in my upcoming content. If you want to know more about it, click here.

Meanwhile, I'm gonna take advantage of this momentum and hope it lasts. Will be re-reading this post in case I needed a boost. Libra season, you're up! x
